What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment designed to straighten your teeth. Invisalign relies upon clear plastic aligners that are virtually invisible. It is a popular treatment among teenagers and adults, as it allows you to retain a natural, professional appearance throughout your treatment and will blend with your lifestyle perfectly.
How does Invisalign work?
Invisalign works my making small corrections to your tooth alignment, gradually straightening your smile. Your aligners are custom-designed using state-of-the-art 3D computer technology. Depending on the severity of the correction needed, you may receive as few as 12 sets of aligners, or as many as 48. Each set of aligners is worn for about 2 weeks, at which time you switch to a new aligner to continue the progress of your treatment. Your aligners are removeable, making it easy to eat, drink, brush, and floss, but should be worn night at day with as little interruption as possible.
Are there restrictions on what I can eat?
No. Because your aligners are removeable, you can eat anything you want as long as you remove your aligners first. The same goes for drinking, chewing gum, and smoking.
Do Invisalign aligners hurt?
You may feel a small amount of discomfort when you switch to a new set of aligners, which should fade as your mouth adjusts and the appropriate corrections to your tooth alignment are made.
How can I clean my aligners?
You can clean your aligners by brushing them gently with a toothbrush and toothpaste under warm water. Cleaning kits are also available. Do NOT put your aligners in the dishwasher, microwave, or under extremely hot water.
How often should I wear my aligners?
The more often you wear your aligners, the more quickly and effectively your treatment will progress. You should only remove your aligners to eat, drink, brush, or floss. We recommend that you wear your Invisalign aligners 20-22 hours each day.
Can anyone benefit from Invisalign?
While many patients can benefit from Invisalign, this treatment is not for everyone. Invisalign can correct minor to moderate orthodontic issues, but in cases where major adjustments need to be made other treatments will be recommended. Invisalign is not recommended for children, as it requires some discipline to wear the aligners for more than 20 hours a day.
Is Invisalign covered by my insurance?
Insurance benefits vary between individuals. Please review your insurance policy to see if Invisalign is covered.
